The Bullseye

While visiting Amsterdam the otherday I saw this muslima girl going up with the escalator in the Magna Plaza Mall. Somehow her spotless red clothing and the architecture reminded me of a dartboard, hence the title.

The LPG

After seeing my painting The Shell mister Jan Zijlstra commisioned me to paint his car. His Volvo runs on LPG, which is quite unusual for a ride that large. Although the painting is already sold I just wanted to share this piece with all of you. Tomorrow I will post another blog painting. Stay tuned!

The Buffalo

In the northern part of the Netherlands where I work and live we have this train quite appropriately called the Buffalo. One fine evening I saw this big beast waiting for it's passengers and ready for it's stampede.

The one day show at the Harmonie went well! Lot of visitors and a lot of nice reactions! The next show is in Amsterdam and will start this week. More info soon!

The Kitchen

There’s nothing better than a home cooked meal. I always prefer it above eating outdoors, no matter how many stars the restaurant might have. Nowadays more men are to be found in the kitchen as well and we sure can cook too. Although it looks like the man on the painting sets the whole place on fire..

One day show at Harmonie

Last week the famous Dutch lawyer Hans Anker of Anker and Anker lawyers paid me visit. Not that I have any legal issues lying around, he came to see my art.

Anker was impressed by it and invited me to show my works during a large congress for lawyers of which I'm very thankful. The congress will take place tomorrow at the municipal theatre Harmonie in Leeuwarden. A lot of lawyers will come to this event and it's a great oppurtunity to introduce my works of art to them. Ten of my larger sized works will be shown there for only one day. The congress is a private one and not open to the public. Of course you're more than welcome to pay my studio a visit if you happen to be near by!

Tomorrow I will post another daily painting, Stay tuned!

The Lookalike

After delivering my work for my show at the ICO in Assen I saw this lady coming down on the escalator. She had a blue shirt on and I suddenly saw the similarity between her and the dummy beneath her. They could have been twins to me!

The Destination

In The Hague I saw this tram entering a tunnel. For me tunnels symbolize the unknown future. Likewise the future a tunnel is usually dark and you cannot see what's coming up next. Luckily you can see your destination most of the time as a bright light at the end of the tunnel. Here the bright light is missing and we can only guess what the destination is of the people riding the tram. I'm sure it's a pleasant one!

The Departure

I saw this tram leaving during my visit to The Hague. The tram was crowded and people were jumping aboard in the nick of time. It always intriques me when people are put together in places with other people they don’t know. All these people have a different background and their own story to tell. I wonder if they took the time out to get to know one another a little bit during the ride. Next time I will jump aboard too and find out!

Oddment - The Trashcan

I recently got out of the train and I was walking towards the exit of the train station of my hometown when something shining caught my eye. When I took a good look I saw it was this trashcan. The Netherlands is famous for it’s designs and the trash-can isn’t the exception to the rule. While I stood there observing the garbage can it suddenly reminded me of keeping up appearances. The trashcan may be shining on the outside, inside it’s nothing but trash. You wouldn’t know that when you only see the outside.

The Security

In addition to my blog paintings I decided to put one of my larger paintings up for auction. The painting is called The Security and is approximately 37" x 27" (93,3 x 70 cm.) in size.

The painting is situated at Wallstreet, New York. I painted it in 2006 just after my second show in the Big Apple. A man is trying to buy something at a kiosk, but there seems to be no assistant in sight. This just might be why the policeman is watching him closely. Perhaps the man is about to do something wrong!

Tomorrow another daily painting!

The New Religion

During my visit to Amsterdam I took the escalator in the Magna Plaze Mall. While looking down I saw this lady admiring a red dress in a shop-window. The dummy is bathing in light and the whole scene reminded me of statues you see in churches. Perhaps the woman is even saying prayer to get her husband buying her that dress, finally!

Oddment - The Door

Although I made it myself, this painting intriques me. I wish I could walk through that door and see what's behind it. For me the door symbolizes the path I take. You'll never know what's next and what you might find after you open one door. Sometimes you get a glimpse in advance and here the future looks mighty bright!

The Shopping Mall

Although I like to look good, I'm not particular fond of shopping. Recently I had to get me some new cloths though and I was wandering through a shopping mall. I was upstairs and saw this lady searching for cloths when I looked down. I don't know if she bought any, I know I got some nice new shirts when I got back home and this great idea for a painting which you are now viewing.

Upcoming shows

Two shows have just ended last week but two more are already on their way! In the first week of november I will show my latest pieces at a special exhibition in the Posthoorn Church near the Central Station in Amsterdam. This exhibition will only last for one week and is organised by Master Art Consultancy from Amsterdam They often organise shows at special locations and this one is going to be good!

Last summer Galerie Help U Zelven from Winterswijk asked me to design a table-cloth together with Louise Cohen. After some hard work we finally got the design together and it's looking pretty good. The table-cloth is made in the Dutch Textile Museum and will be shown in november and december at Galerie Help U Zelven. It will be available in 5 different colors with matching napkins. Besides the table-cloth Louise will show her latest designs and I will show my paintings.

Exact dates and more information about the shows to be announced. Tonight I will post a new daily painting!

The Office

I always find great motifs to paint while I knockabout the streets of my hometown at night. This time I noticed this office. Although the lights were still shining, there's not a soul in sight. All the employees have left the office and are enjoying their hard earned night off. Still it seems something could happen any minute from now and the place is bursting with activity once more.

The Platform

I just recently got my driving license, but I still find myself riding the train quite often. Old habits are hard to kill I guess. One night I arrived in my hometown very late. This was after the grand opening of my show at ICO, centre for art and culture in Assen. It took me almost 3 hours to get home and I was feeling kind of tired and sleepy, but at the same I was pleased about how the show went. I finally stepped out, looked back and saw this beautiful view of the train I was just in. Right there and then I decided to paint it and I'm pretty satisfied about the results!

Oddment - The Arrow

I’ve got something special for you today! ‘The Arrow’ is my second oddment for this blog and unlike ‘The Avero Tower’ this one doesn’t differ in subject manner but in size. The painting is exactly the size as you see it here, 9,7 x 7,4 cm (3.8” x 2.9”). It’s a real thrill to paint something that small and I love how the arrow points to something we cannot see. This and the lighting give the painting a special atmosphere, don’t you think?

Yesterday the Leeuwarder Courant ran a large article on me and my blog, which I will post soon. I have to translate it you know. I also want to thank everybody who are bidding on my recent paintings. It’s greatly appreciated!

The Magazines

I love to read and it comes to no surpise that you might find me in a bookstore somewhere. I recenlty saw this lady looking at some magazines. I really love the lighting in this one. It gives the painting this magical atmospere which is emphasized by the fact that we don't know what she's reading.

The painting is ready to go, so you can expect it within a week to 10 days after the auction ends. Bidding starts at only one dollar. You will receive the painting safely packaged and ready to frame or simply displayed on a small easel. Please be reminded that the colors may slightly vary due to a digitalcamera's results and depending on your monitor.

I hope you enjoy this painting and the paintings ahead. If you wish to be informed about all my paintings, you can subscribe to my blog. Each painting's entry includes a direct link to the auctions. Bidding on my first blog painting 'The Tram-Stop'ends this sunday!
