24.8.134 Years Later- Portrait Of Barack Obama As Superman Whitewashed
4 Years Later Right after his inauguration in 2009 I made a portrait of Barack Obama as Superman. Four years later I updated the portrait by adding a transparent white layer. I consider this portrait to be finished and signed it in the lower right corner. The pics below show the portrait before and after. kind regards, Gerard
UPDATE: In 2017 I painted something completely new on this panel. With that I destroyed Obama Superman.

Obama Superman This painting is no longer available as it didn't held up to my standards. I thought the painting was pretty weak and more of a cartoon than a real painting. I first whitewashed it and called that a painting for some arty farty reason. But then I totally painted it over. The new painting on top of it sold. 1.9.09Famous Frisian in America and Obama Superman
I had a splended day today! This morning I attended the bookpresentation of Famous Frisians in America. The book by Peter de Haan is a collection of fascinating profiles of 70 famous Frisians who positively distinguished themselves in the United States for the last 400 years. From Peter Stuyvesant to Doutzen Kroes...and me! As one of the very few artists I too am included in the book with one page of text and 3 images of my series of paintings about the US.
The presentation began with a nice breakfast, followed by a word of welcome by the commisioner of the Queen. After that a couple of speakers took center stage giving a lot of background info on a selection of people in the book. Very interesting to listen to. It was quite crowded too, over 100 people attended. During the presentation images were projected on a large screen, including some of my paintings! Later I spoke to the author and I got my own copy. The book is not only published in Dutch, but in English as well. On 12 september the first copy of the English version will be presented to topmodel Doutzen Kroes on Governor's Island in New York during the Hudson 400 festivities. 22.4.09Obama Books Two
A while ago I painted a still life of books about Obama. I actually had another one in mind, but didn't started to work on that untill yesterday. I thought I could finish it in one day easily, but boy what I was wrong.
I already had a slow start, because the art commission of Isala hospital from Zwolle paid me a visit on monday evenening which was great. As from now on my painting Subway Platform is part of their impressive collection of art! Of course I celebrated and went to bed late. But when I did woke up, my shoulder was hurting, must have slept on it wrong, making it difficult to lift my left arm. Of course that's the one I paint with. Nonetheless I started working on Obama Books Two, but the details were too much to finish in one session, especially with a shoulder like that. Started to work on it again today, my shoulder even worse. But I managed to finish the painting, sure hope you enjoy it! kind regards, Gerard  Obama Books Two G. 5.2.09Obama Books
My jetlag is almost gone and I'm slowly getting used to the cold weather again! It sure feels good to be back in the studio painting! Today I started with my my new series of paintings about LA. First up is a still life painting of Barack Obama books.
Of course I saw the inauguration of Barack Obama live on television and thought I have to do something with this. I didn't want to make just another portrait of Obama, but wasn't sure what to paint then. Later on I walked into the bookstore Barnes and Nobles on the Santa Monica Promenade. There I saw this pile of books on Obama and thought that's it! That's what I'm going to paint and here it is! kind regards, Gerard Boersma  Obama Books G.
