4.7.26Luchtalarm- Painting Of An Air Raid Siren In Blue Sky Luchtalarm
G. Boersma SOLD In Luchtalarm, I depart from my signature, quiet museum interiors to present a minimalist modern still life. The composition is deceptively simple: a mechanical air raid siren cutting sharply into a brilliant, cloudless blue sky. The primary symbolic tension in Luchtalarm lies in its forced duality. To me, the serene blue sky represents peace, freedom, and the calmness of everyday life, while the siren is a symbol of latent vulnerability—a reminder of how quickly peace can be shattered by geopolitical instability, climate catastrophes, or modern conflict. The painting operates much like Schrödinger's cat; it is simultaneously calm and anxious. Because we cannot see sound, the siren might actually be blaring right now, trapping the viewer in that tense space of not knowing which one it is.
