still life painting of two CCTV surveillance camera's against blue sky

G. Boersma
acrylic on masonite

2025

SOLD

This is number 47 in a continuing series of paintings of CCTV camera's.

I consider surveillance camera's as a symbol of our times. To me they represent a more and more totalitarian society and the declining freedom and privacy.

I had this odd shaped panel lying around for ages. Finally decided on making it into this painting of a CCTV surveillance camera against a blue sky.

It's number 46 already in a continuing series of paintings of CCTV camera's.

I consider surveillance camera's as a symbol of our times. To me they represent a more and more totalitarian society and the declining freedom and privacy.

I'm fascinated by cctv surveillance camera's as I view them as a symbol of our times. To me they represent the decline of privacy and I'm saddened to say also the decline of democracy.

I know paintings like these aren't everybody's cup of tea. But to me there are paintings I love to paint, but there are also paintings I have to paint. The surveillance camera's are amongst the latter.

Waste Of Time- Painting Of My Brother Lying On The Couch At My Parent's House To Watch Some TV

Waste Of Time
painting of my brother lying on the couch at my parent's house to watch some tv

G. Boersma
acrylic on masonite
15" x 20" or 38 x 51 cm
2005

One night, I believe it was Christmas eve, I saw my brother lying on the coach at my parent's house to watch some television. I grabbed my camera, took a pic which I later used as a reference for this painting.

If you look closely you see a lamp, a donkey and a dog sitting on top of the tv. My parents actually had those things there.

To me the lamp symbolizes enlightenment. That's the relief you think you get from watching tv. In reality it's a burden to watch, represented by the donkey. But you faithfully keep on watching anyway. This faith is symbolized by the dog.

By the way, did you notice that there's literally nothing to watch already?
