His Divers (or Les Plongeurs) is a celebrated series of paintings and drawings initiated in the 1940s that depicts entangled human bodies in mid-motion. The initial inspiration came to Léger in 1940 when watching divers in Marseille and, later, a crowded swimming pool in the United States.
