At the supermarket I saw this lovely redhaired woman paying for her groceries at the check out. Just a perfect scene for todays painting!

Tomorrow I'm going to pick up paintings at broadcaster Omrop Fryslan and bring those (at least a couple) to my upcoming show with my great-uncle Jopie Huisman in Workum. I'll be there all day decorating and well, just making sure everything is ready for the show! Looking forward to it!

Second entry in what I think could easily be a new series of paintings about sneakers. I always assumed that flat shoes wouldn't make interesting paintings, but I definitely changed my mind. I love it!

Yesterday I brought my first paintings to Museum De Andere Kant for my upcoming show with my late greatuncle Jopie Huisman.

Son Jacob and cousin Joop collected so many works by Jopie! Over 150 and counting! I already knew that of course, but seeing all those paintings and drawings together is pretty different than just hearing a number.

I especially enjoyed the earlier works from the 40's and 50's. It's pretty obvious Jopie was under the influence of great masters from the past and still searching for his own voice. Gradually that voice came and the public loved him for it. But to me as a painter it's just great to see the road leading to his much deserved fame.

Besides, seeing all the portraits he made of relatives together is pretty amazing to me. He portraited my great-grandparents, my grandfather, my uncle, my dad and many others. I'm honoured and feel so blessed to be part of all this and to show my own paintings at the same show!

The last museum scene this week is of a woman enjoying a portrait of Mao by Andy Warhol.

This silk-screen portrait of the Chinese leader was made in many versions. It is one of the series of silk-screens that Warhol made on the subject of fame which began with the portraits of Marilyn Monroe.

Her tragic death in 1962 led him to contemplation of what it meant to be famous and what it could possibly be worth. His attitude towards the Chinese regime is evident in the additional brushstrokes which looks a bit like graffiti to me.

To me the mountains on this painting are symbolic for all obstacles in life we might encounter growing up. I like to think that obstacles aren't here to obstruct, but rather instruct. It only shows how badly you desire a thing and what you're willing to do to overcome it.

Sure it's a rocky road at times and the mother can take him only that far. After that the child has to find his own path, but with proper guidance and education at the very beginning I'm sure the young child will reach the mountain's peak. Look at his attitude, I'm sure he will.

It feels kinda good to be back at my daily painting routine, I'm loving it! Todays painting shows a man and woman admiring a landscape from up close.

Some art lovers have such an appetite for art that they can almost eat the painting, that's how hungry they are, they just need it. I like to think the man on my painting is one of those art lovers. He's probably imagining himself taking a walk in that beautiful landscape, perhaps together with the woman standing next to him.

It has been quite a week since I made my portrait of Geert Wilders with Muslims public. My head was spinning with all the attention, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you again for all your kind words and compliments, I really appreciate that!

In the midst of all the attention I did find some painting time and I finished a larger piece for my upcoming show with my late greatuncle Jopie Huisman. This show is really very special to me.

I will post the painting I did and all details about the show soon on my brand new blog Hyperrealism Paintings. On this blog I will share my thoughts on art and life and only post larger scaled paintings from past and present with personal commentaries. It would be great if you could join me there as well!

Speaking of blogs, I finally managed to incorporate my blogs to my website. That way everything is put under one umbrella, so you can easily navigate my blogs and website. I heard some of you see this text as a Times font, it should be the same font I use on my website. Bare with as I'm trying to fix that bug.

Right now I'm back to my daily painting routine as usual and I sure hope you enjoy todays painting of a man admiring works of art by Picasso!

Portrait Geert Wilders With Muslims Update 2

A short update with links to the media coverage for my portrait of Geert Wilders With Muslims. Omrop Fryslan Hjoed, Weekkrant Fryslan and the Leeuwarder Courant. All articles are in Dutch or Frisian, but I sure hope you enjoy those.

I'm afraid that through all the attention my painting gets I find it hard to get back into my daily painting routine, but I will pick that up as soon as time permits me to do so. The painting time I do have right now I devote to a larger scaled painting for a very special upcoming show with my late greatuncle Jopie Huisman. More info soon!

In the meantime thanks again for all your kind words and positive responses, I sure do enjoy getting those, keep them coming and please feel free to pass the painting to your friends!

Portrait Geert Wilders with Muslims Update

Thank you everybody for your kind words about my painting The Prophet (portrait of Geert Wilders with Muslims).

I'm getting tons of positive responses and it has been overwhelming to say the least. The only negative response I got thus far came from a well known museum in the Netherlands which called it totally crap, they literally emailed me that, I thought that was pretty funny.

This morning I learned that my painting was broadcasted nationwide at the morning news show of the NOS. The image above shows the painting I did in 2006 of this news show. Unfortunately I haven't seen it myself, I unplugged my tv a while ago and now regretting that decision.

Yesterday Omrop Fryslan aired an item in their news show Hjoed. Today the Leeuwarder Courant will publish an article about my work and tomorrow another local newspaper Fryslan will do the same. A lot of media coverage!

Close friends of mine made an introduction video of me and my art which I now uploaded to my brand new youtube channel. You can watch the video here. And yes, finally, you can follow me on twitter too, right here

While I'm typing this I just got of the phone with local broadcaster Mercurius, I'm going to be interviewed in a minute or so. I have to hurry and get to my studio immediately. Hopefully I find some time today to paint as well!
