This painting caused quite a stir already.

I created it for the upcoming groupshow about Frisian landscapes at Tresoar in my hometown Leeuwarden. It gave my art dealer quite a shock when I showed it to her. So much indeed that she's considering not showing it.

You see, all the other artists like Jan Mankes, Jopie Huisman, Gerrit Benner to name a few all show traditional landscape paintings. Compared to those works, mine's the ugly duckling of course.

But when I look at the Frisian landscape I see signs like this as well. Unlike other artists I thought it would make a wonderful motif for a painting. It might not be romantic, but it's there alright.

My art dealer wasn't convinced. Then I pulled out the big gun. I said to my art dealer: 'When art moves you, it's great art.' It was clear my work made her feel something, just not what she expected to. 'That's right,' she said.

Still I'm not sure if she wants to show this painting or not. We'll wait and see. The show opens with or without my work this saturday at 15.00h. You're cordially invited!

It feels kinda good to be back at my daily painting routine, I'm loving it! Todays painting shows a man and woman admiring a landscape from up close.

Some art lovers have such an appetite for art that they can almost eat the painting, that's how hungry they are, they just need it. I like to think the man on my painting is one of those art lovers. He's probably imagining himself taking a walk in that beautiful landscape, perhaps together with the woman standing next to him.

Featured Artist - Paul Leasure

A lot of times people ask me what kind of art I like. There are too many artists to mention, but I thought it would be a great idea to feature one of those inspiring artists from time to time in my featured artist post. I start of with Santa Barbara's own landscape and seascape artist Paul Leasure.

Originally from Ohio Paul pursued a carreer in in electronics engineering and painting at an early age. He later moved to Santa Barbara where most of his commissions came from and became well known in the area for his wall art, landscapes and seascapes. 'You should feel the mist of salt air lingering amid the vigor of a crashing wave. When I paint, the goal is to capture mood and movement,' Leasure says about his paintings which can be massive in size. One of his works of wall art was on a single canvas measuring over 17 ft. x 10 ft. or 510 cm x 300 cm.

The paintings show nature in all its forms. They're always painted in a photorealism style and show the artist skills in color. That is an achievement in itself, but even more so when you know Paul is colorblind from birth. By learning the spectral reflectance values of each of his paints, he renders his colors accurately by employing science. This all leads to beautiful paintings of landscapes and seascapes as you can see for yourself here
