Study Of Lucian Freud G. Boersma SOLD On my painting you see a man enjoying a portrait of artist Lucian Freud by Francis Bacon. It's the left panel of a triptych. For a quarter of a century, Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon were the closest of friends. Their lives were characterized by an intense mutual scrutiny of each other and each other’s work, resulting in some extraordinary paintings and a deep but volatile relationship. As Bacon later put it, “Who can I tear to pieces, if not my friends? If they were not my friends, I could not do such violence to them.” As two figurative artists working at a time when abstraction was the pervading fashion, their practices drew on these mutual processes of looking and criticizing to inform their painting. 7.12.18Croix Noire (Black Cross)- Painting Of Woman Enjoying Painting By Kazimir Malevich
Croix Noire (Black Cross) G. Boersma Kazimir Malevich was the founder of the artistic and philosophical school of Suprematism. He invented this term because he believed that art should transcend subject matter. The truth of shape and color should reign 'supreme' over the image or narrative. His ideas about forms and meaning in art would eventually constitute the theoretical underpinnings of abstract art. Malevich worked in a variety of styles, but his most important and famous works concentrated on the exploration of pure geometric forms. With the piece 'Black Cross' Malevich explores an important aspect of human life, that of the power to choose between two options. In some cases, this choice is reduced to one between good and evil. In other situations, it is not so obvious which option is good or will bring results down the road. Perhaps that is what my figure is thinking about as well. Abstracto Rojo (Abstract Red) G. Boersma SOLD Ad Reinhardt was a prominent American abstract artist, writer, critic, and educator. Although commonly associated with the Abstract Expressionists, his work had its origins in geometric abstraction. In this work, subtle variation in hue creates a grid, an effect intended to be neither symbolic nor referential but purely optical. Reinhardt argued for the elimination of sentiment from art. 'I don’t understand, in a painting,' he said, 'the love of anything except the love of painting itself.' Although Reinhardt sought to remove all references to the external world from his pictures, he remained convinced that his art had the potential to affect social change. He also maintained an interest in various types of mysticism. Something perhaps my viewer is enjoying.
