De Storm (The Tempest) painting of a man enjoying a painting by Bart van der Leck
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 40 x 20 cm | 16 x 8 in 2026 Click here to view the auction
The man in my painting is enjoying a painting by Bart van der Leck. His 1916 painting De Storm (The Tempest or The Storm), uses radical abstraction, elementary shapes, and primary colors to capture the essence and raw, stirred emotion of a gale-force coastal storm rather than a detailed realistic scene.

Marilyn painting of a man enjoying a painting by Andy Warhol
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 25 x 25 cm | 10 x 10 in 2026 Click here to view the auction
This piece originally began life as a commissioned work for an art collector in Italy, but I misunderstood the request and painted the wrong Marilyn entirely.
While I immediately created a new, correct version for the now very happy Italian collector, this initial painting is still available. I hope it finds a great home after all.

Bomb Hugger painting of a man enjoying a painting by Banksy
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 20 x 20 cm | 8 x 8 in 2026 Click here to acquire
The man in this painting is enjoying Banksy’s Bomb Love (also known as Bomb Hugger). Originally conceived as a powerful critique of state-sponsored violence, the iconic street piece shows a young girl tenderly embracing a massive aerial missile as if it were a cherished teddy bear.
The subject engages with the visual contrast between childhood innocence and mechanized destruction. Ultimately, the artwork's message is that universal compassion and love hold the power to disarm hostility.
If you look closely on the second picture you see my painting Hope hanging right next to it in Galerie Coste in Deauville, France, 2018. On the right you see a glimpse of a soup can by Andy Warhol. Not bad company!

Whaam! painting of a woman enjoying a painting by Roy Lichtenstein
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 90 x 60 cm | 35.5 x 24 in 2026 Click here to view the auction
Standing in front of Roy Lichtenstein’s 'Whaam!', you are hit with a massive, loud wave of comic-book energy. I love the sharp contrast between that explosive background and the quiet presence of a real person just taking it all in.
Ultimately, to me the painting is about the idea of staying completely calm while the world around you explodes.

Clown painting of a man enjoying a painting by Kaws
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 20 x 20 cm | 8 x 8 in 2026 SOLD
In this painting you see a man admiring a contemporary piece by the artist Kaws. The featured artwork spotlights his renowned "Companion" character—a clown-like figure heavily influenced by vintage animation stylistic elements—sitting with its white-gloved hands pulled over its face.
Kaws routinely utilizes this distinctive, shielding posture across his work to channel a deep sense of modern isolation, vulnerability, and internal struggle. Mixing this exaggerated cartoon sorrow with a real man's quiet reflection creates a captivating space where two worlds meet.

Composition With Red, Yellow And Blue painting of a man enjoying a painting by Piet Mondrian
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 20 x 20 cm | 8 x 8 in 2026 SOLD
The man on my painting is enjoying a painting by Piet Mondrian, the pioneering Dutch master whose iconic work represents a search for universal harmony and a spiritual cosmic order through pure geometric abstraction.
Mondrian’s reduction of form to essential vertical and horizontal lines represents a quest to uncover the ultimate, hidden reality of nature. In capturing a viewer standing before this strict abstraction, I reintroduce the human element into the composition, completing the narrative journey from pure idea back to living reality.

Girl With Tear painting of a man enjoying a painting by Roy Lichtenstein
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 30 x 20 cm | 12 x 8 in 2026 SOLD
In this painting you see a man enjoying a pop art painting entitled Girl With Tear by Roy Lichtenstein. During the mid-to-late 1970s, Lichtenstein began parodying and honoring early 20th-century masters like Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, and Pablo Picasso in his signature comic book style.
The central motif—a giant, isolated eye shedding a single tear—is a direct nod to classic Surrealist imagery, which often used displaced body parts to create dreamlike, unsettling landscapes. By placing a realist figure within this space, the scene creates a compelling mix of Surrealism, Pop Art, and Realism in return honoring Roy Lichtenstein in my own way.

Polka Dots painting of a woman enjoying a painting by Yayoi Kusama
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 30 x 30 cm | 12 x 12 in 2026 SOLD
In this painting you see a woman enjoying the vibrant, hypnotic rhythms of a Yayoi Kusama polka dot painting. For Kusama, these dots are not mere decoration; they are symbols of infinity, the vast cosmos, and a lifelong tool for survival.
She turned to drawing dots as a coping mechanism to map, contain, and control her terrifying psychological experiences. Kusama often notes that a polka dot carries the form of the sun, symbolizing the energy of the entire world and representing a space with no beginning or end. As the woman looks at this boundless sea of dots, her contemplation reminds us that we are all interconnected particles of this space.

Femme Au Chapeau painting of a man enjoying a painting by Picasso
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 40 x 20 cm | 16 x 8 in 2026 SOLD
In this work, I capture a male viewer engrossed by Pablo Picasso’s 1939 masterpiece, Tête De Femme Au Chapeau. Picasso's painting functions as both an intimate psychological portrait of his muse, Dora Maar, as well as a reflection of the anxiety gripping Europe on the cusp of World War II.
Art historians often note that Picasso’s Cubist distortion in 1939 was no longer just an aesthetic experiment; it was a literal mirror to a broken world.
Yet, my painting underscores that while history may experience periods of profound fragmentation, our capacity to seek meaning, preserve empathy, and find enduring beauty through art remains an unbroken and hopeful force.

Men In The Cities painting of a woman enjoying a painting by Robert Indiana
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 20 x 20 cm | 8 x 8 in 2026 SOLD
In this work, I capture a woman completely absorbed by Robert Indiana’s legendary pop art masterwork Love. His iconic image symbolizes spiritual devotion, universal human connection, and the counterculture idealism of the 1960s.
As the viewer interacts with the vibrant palette and the uniquely tilted 'O', the composition turns into a celebration of an enduring shared emotion. It underscores that while eras change, our innate human desire to seek out affection, optimism, and universal unity remains the same.

Men In The Cities painting of a woman enjoying a painting by Robert Longo
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 20 x 20 cm | 8 x 8 in 2026 SOLD
An elderly woman stands in quiet contemplation before a piece from Robert Longo’s iconic Men in the Cities series (1979–1983). Longo's original masterpiece captures sharply dressed urbanites caught in dramatic, contorted moments of violent tension, ecstatic collapse, or frantic dance—a vivid struggle between control and collapse.
While Longo’s work is famously viewed as a dark satire of ambitious 1980s yuppie culture and people pushed to their limits by the modern rat race, this painting reimagines that chaos through a lens of weathered wisdom.
The juxtaposition transforms the frantic existential dread of the original art into a moment of peaceful reflection, suggesting that the struggles of youth and ambition are ultimately softened by the grace, perspective, and passage of time.

Elegy painting of a man enjoying a painting by Robert Motherwell
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 20 x 20 cm | 8 x 8 in 2026 Click here to acquire
Consisting of over 150 paintings, Motherwell's iconic series serves as a solemn, abstract lament for the human suffering of the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939).
His monumental compositions are celebrated for their stark visual rhythm. These recurring elements act as powerful metaphors for the cycle of life and death, reminding us that even amidst deep tragedy, human resilience and vitality always prevail.

Nothing Happened painting of a woman enjoying a painting inspired by Christopher Wool
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 30 x 30 cm | 12 x 12 in 2026 SOLD
'Nothing Happened' depicts a woman entirely absorbed in a text-based painting created in the gritty, industrial style of American artist Christopher Wool.
In today's fast-paced world, the phrase 'Nothing Happened' serves as a sharp commentary on our fleeting media culture—capturing the modern cycle of outrage where a scandal gets exposed, everyone gets mad, the perpetrators quickly apologize, and then the collective consciousness immediately moves on to the next current thing as if nothing ever happened.
Yet, by standing in quiet contemplation, the viewer in the painting offers a hopeful alternative; her stillness reminds us of our own capacity to pause, deeply reflect, and find meaningful connection amidst the endless noise of the modern world.

Met Het Hoofd In De Wolken painting of a woman enjoying a painting by Raoul de Keyser
G. Boersma acrylic on panel 20 x 20 cm | 8 x 8 in 2026 SOLD
'Met Het Hoofd In De Wolken' (With Head in the Clouds) depicts a woman entirely absorbed in a painting by the Belgian modernist Raoul de Keyser.
De Keyser’s work is celebrated for its poetic, understated abstraction—made up of simple shapes, tempered colors, and an intentional blurring of the line between a literal sky and pure geometric abstraction. The woman seems to love it, hence the title 'Met Het Hoofd In De Wolken'.
Galerie Nathan Vilar in Deinze, Belgium (De Keyser’s historic hometown) currently has original works by Raoul de Keyser available for acquisition, as well as a selection of my own original paintings.
