Grünewald's the Mocking of Christ (1503) is a colourful, vehemently expressive Renaissance painting demonstrating his ability to create dazzling light effects.

The mocking of Christ is part of the passion of Jesus. It occurred several times, after Christ's trial and before his crucifixion. Matthias Grünewald's painting depicts Jesus blindfolded and being beaten by a band of grotesque men.

Grünewald uses figural distortion to portray violence and tragedy. That was quite the challenge, but big fun to paint. The figures are thick-bodied, soft, and fleshy, done in a manner suggestive of the Italian High Renaissance.

My figure sort of blends in with the gang and you can see him filming the whole scene with his phone. Is he mocking Christ in a modern way?

The man on my painting is enjoying Kiss Of Judas painted by Giotto in ±1304.

The kiss of Judas, also known as the Betrayal of Christ, is how Judas identified Jesus to the multitude with swords and clubs who had come to arrest him.

The kiss is given by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane after the Last Supper and leads directly to the arrest of Jesus by the police force of the Sanhedrin. I tried to paint it as if my figure was there as well.

This painting shows me enjoying Salvator Mundi by Leonardo Da Vinci.

The painting shows Jesus Christ as Salvator Mundi (Latin for Savior of the World). Da Vinci painted it around 1500. Jesus gives a benediction with his right hand raised and two fingers extended, It sold last year for a record breaking 450 million and is currently the most expensive painting ever to be sold at auction.

I thought it was a perfect theme for my ongoing series of people in museums and of course there's a lot of symbolism here too.
