To me they represent the decline of privacy and I'm saddened to say also the decline of democracy. I know paintings like these aren't everybody's cup of tea. James McNeill Whistler is one of my all time favorite artists and when I saw this book on the bookshelf I knew I wanted to paint it. I love how he looks at us with this bold self assured look of his. I also love how his whole life is cramped into this bundle of pages. That's what remains of us after we're gone I guess: a bunch of stories with a price tag on it.
