This still life painting of a Coca Cola bottle is a statement about mass-produced consumer culture and the blurring lines between fine art and commercial imagery.

I like that the fact that no matter how rich or poor you are, you cannot get a better Coke than somebody else.

The same product with the same taste is available to everyone, regardless of wealth, making it a democratic and shared experience.

Coca Cola Bottle Small - Still life of bottle of coke

I'm really into the small paintings these last couple of days. While painting the musuem scenes recently I thought I tried my hand at a small still life as well. On todays painting you see a bottle of Coke. I'm not sure if you can see it, let alone read it, but the label in the right corner says XL. Extra Large for such a tiny bottle!

Spa & Fruit - Still life painting bottle of Spa

I had a hectic day yesterday, but everything turned out just great! I had to pick up a couple of paintings at Warnars & Warnars and then bring them and other paintings to the frameshop in Amsterdam. From there they will be framed and shipped to LA for the LA Art Show in january. Not exactly knowing where to go me and a friend took a wrong turn somewhere, but we managed to get there with less than a quarter to spare before the shop closed. I'm glad everything turned out just fine, but decided to take it slow today. I hope you enjoy todays painting of a bottle of Spa & Fruit and I wish you a happy weekend!

Holy Water

Yeah, finally a painting this week! It's vacation time again and I'm taking things real slow, but that will change soon enough. Todays painting is quite unusual for me, it's a still life. I haven't made many still lifes and I thought it would be fun to experiment a bit with that using modern objects as a subject. The Coca Cola bottles are up first!
