5.8.09Cabs - Painting Of New York Yellow Cabs
I simply couldn't resist painting another scene with the yellow cabs on New York today. Nightfall is coming soon which gives the windows this wonderful blue color.

31.7.09Three Cabs -Yellow Cabs In Streets NYC
I had so much fun painting the yellow cabs yesterday that I wanted to try my hand on another painting with the same subject. This time focussing more on the back of the cars and reflections on the ground.

30.7.09Roxy - Yellow Cabs On Times Square
I'm really getting back into my daily painting routine, I love it. Today I got another great scene from New York for you, Times Square to be exact. The cabs are great to paint, the colors are vibrant and it stands out against almost every background. Here the background is Roxy, a restaurant on Times Square.

It's so hot in my studio! The paint is drying before I even can mix it properly. It's one of those days I wished I was a plein air painter. Ah well, I just keep going at it and besides I got a small break coming up this weekend starting tomorrow. In any case I finally made the larger sized version of Head-Lights. It seems I'm heavy on the cabs these days!

Another great night scene in New York. This time the painting is situated at Times Square. The paintings shows a little bit more buildings than usual, but that's because the whole place is heavy lightened, which is a blast to paint. I painted this one with my upcoming show in New York in mind. At this point I'm not sure which ones to bring so we'll see how that goes.

Last friday the groupshow Back from NY & LA opened at Amstel Gallery. And what an opening it was!
Petra of Amstel Gallery told me on the phone she had a special location arranged for this show, not that far from the gallery itself. At first I didn't thought much of it, but when I walked in it really blew me away! The space is truly amazing and the art is well, just topnotch! It kind of reminded me of the large galleries you see in New York. A huge crowd showed up when the show was about to open. Manuela Kemp did an excellent job opening it. I enjoyed talking to everybody and we ended a perfect evening with a couple of sales. The show still runs untill the end of this week. If you have a change to visit the show please don't hesitate to do so. I never say this, but this one truly is a must see! In other news in september I got a show coming up in New York. At this point I cannot tell you much about it, but it's going to be really special. Todays painting Slow Traffic is going to be part of it. It's the larger sized version of a daily painting I did a while ago. I take the rest of the week to paint another larger sized painting, also for the NY show. With a bit of luck I can finish this one friday. kind regards, Gerard Boersma Slow Traffic G. Boersma acrylics on masonite 20" x 20" or 51 x 51 cm 2009 SOLD 7.6.09The Head-Lights
Like I said yesterday, I tried to get a cab over and over again. This one didn't stop either. I bought a metrocard on the spot and went for the subway. Despite my bad experiences with cabs I still had great fun painting this, especially the lights are always a pleasure.
It's museum-weekend, which means a lot of museums in the Netherlands are open for free this saturday and sunday. Today I went to the museum of my relative Jopie Huisman with my father and mother. Walking through the museum brought back a lot of memories to my dad. I heard stories I haven't heard before. It's also very strange that so many visitors come to see the portraits by Jopie of my great grandfather and mother. It makes me very proud and I think there are a couple of paintings coming up situated at the Jopie Huisman Museum. kind regards, Gerard Boersma The Head-Lights G. FInally a bit larger one this week! On todays painting you see a streetscene of New York. Of course the yellow cab is present, even a small pick up truck can be seen on the right.
The paintings arrived in LA save and sound! It's always very exciting that my paintings make such large trips overseas, so it's a relief to hear they arrived save. Now all I got to do is get myself there as well, that will happen next monday! kind regards, Gerard Boersma Yellow Cab G. Crossing a road can be a dangerous thing. You just might get run over by a bus or like the man on my painting by a yellow cab. But at times you just have to cross the road and take the risk, otherwise you just ain't going anywhere. I for one would be more comfortable riding the cab though.
Summer is here and everybody is enjoying the weather. I noticed things are going a bit slower than usual because of this. I therefore decided to take the opportunity to start working on some larger sized paintings as well. Since I started this blog back in september last year I feel I haven't adressed to that enough and now it's a perfect time to do just that. As you understand larger paintngs take longer to finish, so I won't be posting daily for the time being. Don't worry it is still my aim to post at least 3 paintings a week, including larger and smaller sized paintings. kind regards, Gerard Boersma The Walk G. 10.4.08The Rear-Light
If you have been following my blog lately you probably have seen my paintings about the yellow cabs. You heard me lamenting about not being able to get a cab while I was in New York. Well todays painting is a small variation on the theme and shows what I saw when yet another cab passed me by. I tell you it was a real drag, fortunately painting it makes me very happy!

I started to clean out my old studio a bit. It's amazing how much stuff you gather during the years. I find things I haven't seen for years and I wonder why I have kept them anyway. It's going to take me some time before I'm ready to move to my new studio, that's for sure. I enjoyed the rest of the day painting this little gem. I had great fun painting the yellow cab, especially the glass. I wish you could see it in person, a lot of shapes barely appear on the picture. The scene is taking from a stroll in downtown New York.
kind regards, Gerard Boersma
