The Dance

Todays painting is a larger sized version of my painting the Dance. This time I zoomed out more, showing the complete painting by Millais. If you look closely you can see people dancing on the painting the man is looking at. The scene takes place in Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

The Walkman

The man on the painting is taking a tour in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam by wearing a walkman with information of each painting displayed. If never did it myself, but I can imagine them being great fun. The painting he's looking at is by Millais. The panel is again really small, but don't be alarmed: I haven't abandoned the usual size of 15 x 15 cm, I'm just experimenting a bit with sizes here.

The Dance

In the Van Gogh Museum I saw this man watching a painting by Millais. I'm not sure if you can see it, but on the Millais' painting people are dancing. I thought the contrast between the dancing people against the individual entertainment of our day
and age is quite interesting.

Together

The figures on my painting are watching the famous painting 'Ophelia' by Millais now on view at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. For those that have never heard of Ophelia, she is a character from Shakespeares play Hamlet. She becomes insane after Hamlet murdered her father and by him leaving her. Ophelia finally kills herself by drowning. Fortunately the people on my painting don't have to go through all of that. They're close together enjoying the painting.

The Museum

I could easily get addicted to making these paintings about people in museums. They're so much fun to do! First of all it's great to paint people who are looking at something beautiful and if I did a good job later on people in real life are doing exactly the same thing. Also the lighting in museums is just magnificant and I get to copy some of the greatest artists ever lived, which makes me a better painter I believe.

Todays painting is taken from a visit to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The people are looking at a painting by Millais. Friends from Amsterdam bought it on the spot alongside The Generations, but I defenitely wanted to share it with you all. More to come!
