3.2.10Amero - Painting Of Auctionhouse Christie's
Todays painting is situated at auctionhouse Christie's. Usually the room is jampacked with people, but now there's not a soul in sight. The auctioneer isn't there and the seats are empty. All you see is the desk of the auctioneer and a partial view of the screen with currency conversions.
If you take a closer look at this screen you might notice a very strange currency called Amero. For a while now I hear all these wild rumours going around about the Amero being the replacement currency of the dollar, valid in Canada, US and Mexico only. Not sure if there's any truth in these rumours, but I thought it would be a cool thing to make a painting with the Amero in it. If the Amero ever sees the light of day people might wonder how on earth I knew about it in 2010. kind regards, Gerard Amero G. In addition to the Art Bubble which is situated at Sotheby's I now painted The Auction at the other great auctionhouse Christie's.
Instead of showing the actual painting being auctioned you now see the lot number with conversions to other valuta in the background. Painting all those letters and numbers was quite hard to do I might add, it made me dizzy from time to time! The image shows them a little bit crooked, I haven't got a clue why, but believe me they're straighter than 6'o clock. I like that the action takes place outside the painting, we cannot see who's actually bidding, we only see the auctioneer and some audience members looking at something outside the painting. The dramatic lighting really adds to this mystery. If you take a closer look though, you'll probably notice that something is off. I'm going to be a tease right now not telling you what it is! But, if you're the first who guesses it right, I'll give you a free signed postcard with a painting of mine on it. Feel free to post your guesses in the comments! kind regards, Gerard The Auction G.
