Art Business- Telephone Bids Auction Painting Rothko Christie's

Art Business

G. Boersma
acrylics on masonite
35.6" x 27.6" or 90,3 x 70 cm
2010
SOLD

It took me some weeks to complete, but here it is: my painting of workers taking telephone bids at an art auction at Christie's. You might recognize some figures from previous daily paintings. The painting being auctioned is of course by Rothko. It actually is an image of it projected against the wall. I like how it towers above the workers of Christie's. To me it symbolizes that art is above money. The art business is about art first!

kind regards, Gerard

Sea - Woman looking at painting by Rothko Large

Just like yesterday I got another larger sized painting for you today. If the scene looks famliar, you're right. It's the larger sized version of my daily painting Sea which I made recently. I have made a lot of museum-scenes, but never on a larger scale. I thought the Rothko painting was a good start. Painting larger allows me to add more detail which always makes the paintings more sharper. I defenitely like that.

Tomorrow morning I have to pay my doctor a visit, nothing serious but I'm not sure if I can paint afterwards, I sure do hope so!

kind regards, Gerard

Sea - Woman looking at painting by Rothko

I don't got enough painting time these last couple of days! It seems I got caught up with a bunch of other stuff which needed my attention badly. Much of it is not art related, but today I got interviewed by Mercurius television, a local station here in Leeuwarden. They're going to air the item next tuesday.

Anyway, today I did get some painting time, well a whole day actually. It felt great! On todays painting you see a woman looking at a painting by Rothko. I'm not fond on abstract painting at all, but his I like. You really have to see it in person to fully appreciate it. The colours are amazing! It's like a sea surrounding you on all sides. That's why I named the painting Sea. I saw the Rothko painting at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. A great museum up in the hills. You drive up to it by freeway, park your car and take a tram up the hills to the museum. The architecture is great, but the views are even more amazing. If you ever happen to be in LA, make sure you visit this museum!

kind regards, Gerard Boersma
