This is a commissioned portrait I made earlier this year of my Italian friend and collector Alessandro and his beautiful little daughter Gulia. While Alessandro is admiring his art collection, which includes 2 paintings by me on the left, Gulia can't help but give the viewer the broadest smile possible.

Commissioned Portrait: Jojanneke

Jojanneke

G. Boersma
acrylics on masonite
12.6" x 9.4" or 32 x 24 cm
2011
SOLD

This is a commissioned portrait I did of Jojanneke. As you can see she's expecting a baby and her parents asked me if I could capture this important moment in her life. Of course I would!

Jojanneke specifically indicated that she liked light colors, meaning I had to paint it a little different then I'm used to. Layer after layer went into this painting, I'm guessing at least 20 or so. That's how the colors turned out to be so bright, I like it! I also really like the way she's looking at us, so confident and proud!

I'm also still working on other commissioned paintings and I'm able to show you those very soon. So you can expect more updates soon!

Commisioned Painting- Snackbar Het Vliet

Snackbar Het Vliet
SOLD

G. Boersma
acrylics on masonite
6" x 6" or 15 x 15 cm
2010

In my hometown there is this quite unusual snackcounter, not because they sell strange things or anything. No, they're pretty straight forward with that. It's because of their clientele and the employees themselves. Imagine the most wonderful characters from all walks of live coming together in one place and you get a good idea of what I'm talking about. One of my collectors is a regular there and asked me to paint this scene of snackcounter Het Vliet.

I'm currently working on a larger sized painting of a man sitting in a coffeeshop (the one that actually sells coffee, not to be mistaken with the Dutch smokeshops which are called coffeeshops as well). It's coming together just great and I'm hoping to complete it anytime soon. After that I will pick up my daily painting routine.

Micha

Today I wanted to share a commissioned painting I've done recently. The portraited person is Micha, a friend of mine who just celebrated his birthday. Micha's girlfriend wanted to give him a very special birthday present. What could be more special than to give your loved one immortality? Micha was quite taken by it and the painting now hangs in their living room.

Bernice

Todays painting is a commissioned portrait. The painting of the little girl was a birthday present for her mother. The panel is quite small and at first I wasn't completely sure I got a good likeness, but the mother assured me I nailed it. You cannot argue with that!

Update Leeuwarder Courant Christmas Special

I'm currently working on the commission by the Leeuwarder Courant for their Christmas Special which I mentioned earlier. I found it kind of hard to come up with a good idea around the theme 'exception'. A lot of ideas where just too simple, but I finally got one which I'm really satisfied with. I'm painting it as we speak. Due to our agreement I cannot tell you that much about it, it will spoil the surprise when published, but it has something to do with an old lady. I'm also working on my daily paintings as well, so you guys don't have to be affraid about me not posting anything new!

Leeuwarder Courant Christmas Special

The Leeuwarder Courant has asked me to paint the cover for their annual christmas special! For those who have never heard of the Leeuwarder Courant, it's the largest newspaper in my region with more than 100.000 readers. As you can imagine I'm very honored that they have asked me.

The theme for their christmas special will be 'Exception' and it's also the theme for my painting. Other than that I'm totally free to paint what I like. As an exception (pun intended..) the Leeuwarder Courant also offers a limited number of giclées of the painting. This is a very high quality fine art print, in this case on paper. The giclées will be numbered and signed. I'm very excited about this and cannot wait to get started!

Tomorrow I will post a new blog painting!
