I was first attracted to this scene because of the stillness. Even though there's is lot going on around her (lots of books), she just sits there working quietly, but diligently on the computer. I love that sense of serenity and untroubledness. I also love the way she uses a modern day invention to look up an old one: her favorite book. I just couldn't help but paint it.

It's been a while since I last posted, I was hard at work finishing Coffee Bean! I got lost painting all the little details, there really were a lot! But I loved painting every single one of them. On the painting you see a man sitting with a laptop behind a window of a coffeeshop. If you take a closer look you see another figure in the background left doing the exact same thing.

It seems people nowadays drag their computer everywhere. I always wonder why. Perhaps it's because they want to enjoy a cup of coffee and they feel insecure if they don't have something to play with when they're alone. In any case, it sure makes a great painting and I would love to hear your thoughts on this! The scene takes place somewhere in LA. I forgot the exact spot, but it's either in Hollywood or Santa Monica.

I'm going to take something like a summer recess. You know sleeping in a little and get my mind of painting for a while. Getting some new energy and come back totally charged up. Not sure how long I will be gone, I'm guessing a week, maybe two. That would be long enough!

Macbook

I'm a big fan of Apple computers. I cannot help it, I like the way they look and how they're so easy to use. No wonder that when I was walking on the Santa Monica Promenade I just had to visit the Apple Store there. It was a blessing to actually walk in LA, you hardly can do that anywhere without cars racing down the street, Well anyway, inside the store I saw this man checking out the latest models of the Macbook.

Source of Light

Almost every household nowadays has a personal computer. Untill recently we could do just fine without them, but now we depend heavily on our machinery. I'm not against computers at all, I find them quite useful, but I do object to every new technique planted in our society without thinking about the consequences. What does the new technique do and more important what does it undo? Well one thing the computer cannot replace is the beautiful light given by candles, that's for sure!
