In his paintings Roger Raveel shows us what perception is. That is his theme and partly explains why Raveel's subjects are often so simple: everyday things, without history, without anecdote.
Through the inclusion of reality in his work, Raveel investigates the relativity of the experience of reality. In 'What Do We Actually Understand' we see the simple outline of a seated man.
This man is Roger Raveel himself as a spectator of the reality of his painted world. I complicated things by adding another painted reality.
All the best, Gerard
