Les Miserables- Painting Of Woman Enjoying Self Portrait By Paul Gauguin

Les Miserables
painting of woman enjoying self portrait by Paul Gauguin

G. Boersma
acrylic on masonite
12" x 30" or 30 x 76 cm

You’re now viewing my painting of a woman enjoying a self portrait by Paul Gauguin. He dedicated this self portrait to Van Gogh. In it Gauguin appears as Jean Valjean, anti-hero of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables’, who, while vilified by society, remains true to his personal morality. Seen on the right in profile is Émile Bernard, a fellow painter, who later accused Gauguin of taking credit for his ideas – not without some justification.

kind regards, Gerard
