From pop art back to Victorian Age painting. The woman on my painting is admiring The Vintage Festival by Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema.
Alma Tadema was born in a small village near my hometown Leeuwarden. At a young age he lived here too, later in his life he became one of the highest paid artists in England. After his death in 1912 he was soon forgotten, but there's something of a revival going on. Last year one of his painting sold at Sotheby's for about 34 million dollars. That's saying something!
