Interior- Painting Of A Man Enjoying A Painting By Luc Tuymans

Interior
painting of a man enjoying a painting by Luc Tuymans

G. Boersma
acrylic on panel
20 x 20 cm | 8 x 8 in
2026

SOLD

Luc Tuymans’ interiors are spaces of psychological unease and historical trauma. Rather than comforting domestic settings, he paints seemingly mundane rooms with pale, ghostly hues to expose underlying societal dangers. My figure doesn't seem to be too daunted by it.

The man on my painting is sitting at the counter of a classic American diner called Good Ol' Mimi's Roadhouse.

It's a casual place featuring a retro 1950s style with chrome accents, neon lights, and a relaxed 'home-away-from-home' feel.

A diner usually serves classic American comfort food—burgers, fries, breakfast-all-day and shakes—acting as a cultural icon for nostalgia, community and quick, accessible meals.

Coffe Bean Airport- Painting Of People Waiting In Line At Coffee Bean And Tea Leaf, Las Vegas Airport

SOLD

Leaving Las Vegas Airport and bound to Burbank, Los Angeles my friend wanted to stop at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf to get us both a refreshment.

While standing in line I thought it would make a perfect theme for a painting. It’s such a fleeting moment of todays’ society that it made me want to freeze time and just capture it forever.

I believe it says a lot about the society we’re living in. Fast paced and hardly any time to just sit down to eat and drink. No, just a quick bite
and go. The suitcases bring home this point to me.

What I’m also interested in are these weird short encounters we have with strangers all the time. On my painting two people are standing pretty close together, yet they don’t know each other and neither do they know the guy in the back I guess. Their lives probably will never cross paths again. That intrigues me a lot.

That’s more or less the feeling I tried to convey in my painting Coffee Bean Airport.

As a painter I’m also very much interested in just creating something beautiful to look at. After all I’m a visual aritst and I love the craftmanship that goes into creating a painting like this. Great time and effort are involved. All in all it took about a month painting full time to complete Coffee Bean Airport.

But I don’t really care how much time is involved, I love painting the lights, textures with just a few bottles of paint and some brushes. To make it all come together and just the sheer pleasure of painting is pure enjoyment.

Bookies

Have you ever stood in front of a bookcase and wondered which book to pick up first? There are so many new titles published every week that's hard to keep up. You cannot read them all, so some people just read what's hot in the bestseller list. In other words: they let the list decide which book they should read first.

Funny thing I noticed is when people don't enjoy the book he or she picked, they tend to blame the list for not having the right books. That way you blame something outside yourself which is way better than acknowledging the fact that it really is you who made a wrong choice. A solid way to keep from being depressed I guess.

One of the biggest advantages of reading is that books offer a solution to almost every problem you can think of. Let me rephrase that: there's isn't a problem in the world that somebody didn't write a book about. Judging by her posture and attitude I do think the woman on my painting knows this. You can almost feel her enthusiasm for reading.

I love making these paintings of bookshelves. You always have to look for just the right composition, otherwise the whole painting fails. At times I feel like Mondriaan must have felt. As a matter of fact one could see the still life paintings of books as a realistic Mondriaan, if you don't count the diagonal books that is.

The Thinker- Painting Of Boy Reading In Bookstore

The Thinker
If you're interested in purchasing this painting, please email me for more information and price.

G. Boersma
acrylics on masonite
41.3" x 54.6" or 104,8 x 138,7 cm
2010

SOLD

It took my quite some time, but I finally completed my largest painting up to now. The measurements are a whooping 41.3 x 54.6" or 104,7 x 138,7 cm. The painting shows a boy reading in a bookstore. Books are everywhere. I'm guessing there are at least 500 of them on the painting, I didn't really want to count them all. But by any means feel free to do so and prove me wrong or right:)

When you look at children you're basically looking at the future. I always hear a lot of people complaining about the youth, sometimes that's justified, but I feel the boy on my painting is a fine example of how the youth can be as well. Here's a boy surrounded by books, sitting down and just starts reading. Like most children he probably has a lively imagination and a healthy curiousity about what the future has in store for him.

I always like this about the youth, they're full of live and usually are very enthousiastic about even the smallest things. I just hope he can keep up this positive attitude towards the world and that nobody puts this fire out. Lets hope that the fire-distinquisher on the far right will never be used.

The Thinker Detail

From tomorrow onwards I will pick up my daily paintings again, starting with a special series!
