The woman on my painting is enjoying a painting by Juan Gris, a Spanish painter born painter who's closely connected to the innovative artistic genre Cubism. The painting depicts a violin and a glass. It presents a deconstructed and reassembled version of reality.

Rick, a collector of mine from Tucson, AZ surprised fellow artist Tom Philabaum with my painting of Tom looking at one of his glass works.

On the pic below you see Tom holding the painting. He said he hang it upfront in his gallery :) Thank you Rick Grill for making this happen!

I kind of rediscovered the 8" x 8" or 20 x 20 cm size. I like it, because it's still small, but it gives me enough room to get as realistic as I want, especially with the still life paintings. Todays painting shows my beloved theme of glass and Coca Cola.

Ice Tea - Still Life Painting Of Lipton Ice Tea Glass

After yesterdays Orval, the special beer from Belgium, I thought I give you some nonalcoholic Lipton ice tea today. I always love to drink this on a hot summers day. I can imagine myself sitting on a terrace sipping on this. Oh well, we just have to wait before this cold winter passes I guess.

Orval - Still Life Painting Of Glass Belgium Beer

Not that long ago I saw some Belgium guy on Dutch tv. When asked what the main difference is between our countries the guy answered that the Netherlands might have good roads (Belgium is notorious for extremely bad roads), but we sure don't know how to brew some good beer.

I must say the special beers from Belgium are the best. One of my favourites is Orval, a strong beer which easily gets you tipsy. On todays painting you see an empty glass (of course!) of this brand.

kind regards, Gerard

Always - still life of coca cola glass

After all the museum paintings I've done lately I felt like doing something completely different for a change. I thought it would be cool to make a still life with some reflections and glass in it. I turned to my beloved Coca Cola motive, I just love the white lettering and reds of the label against a dark greenish background. It just looks so classy.

It's also been a while since I made a painting this small. It felt great to finish a painting within a day again and it got my juices going so to speak. I just might return to making dailies!

kind regards, Gerard

Cartman - painting of glass

Last year I painted a still life of a glass showing Kenny of Southpark and now I felt like making one with Cartman. His catchfrase 'I'm not fat, I'm big boned' is right beneath his feet. The funny thing about painting cartoons this way is that all of a sudden they become realistic, I kind of like this strange contrast.

The Leeuwarder Courant recently published a review of my solo-show at Artemisia, it's in Dutch only and you can read it here

Fanta - still life of fanta glass

I'm enjoying these still life paintings so much that I couldn't resist the temptation to paint another one. This one is the large version of my daily painting Fanta I did a while ago. I was kind of curious how the glass would look larger than life. Not sure if I got all the circles straight, but it looks realistic enough for me.

Kenny

I had some trouble updating yesterday, but everything seems to be okay now. Todays painting is a still life of a very special glass. It's a collectors item from the cartoon series Southpark. The figue on the glass is Kenny. I kind of made the cartoon realistic which I thought was a nice contrast.

New on the blog is the Special Offer section. Here I will post my ebay auctions and other special offers on paintings. Make sure you don't miss it!

Seven Up

Just found another great glass to paint, no classy Martini glass this time, but straight up Seven Up to quench your thirst. Seven Up was way more difficult to paint than the Pepsi and Coca Cola ones, the lack of color on the glass was the main reason for this. I always love these challenges and my heart skips a beat when I get the results I'm looking for, rest assured it did! Have a great weekend!
