This painting shows a woman enjoying a painting by August Macke. He was a key figure in German Expressionism and a leader of the Der Blaue Reiter group.

Macke was known for his experimental use of color and form to express emotion rather than just reality.

Tragically, his promising career was cut short when he was killed at the age of 27 in World War I in 1914.

All the best, Gerard

Lady In Green- Painting Of Woman Enjoying Painting By August Macke

Lady In Green
painting of woman enjoying painting by August Macke

G. Boersma
acrylic on masonite
8" x 8" or 20 x 20 cm
2018

SOLD

August Macke was one of the founders of the influential expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider). Although Macke was a leading expressionist, he was essentially a colorist. The colors bounce all over the painting, but the people are mere shapes. Macke is close to pure abstraction, but never fully engaged with it. Perhaps that is what most attractive to my figure.
