The woman on my small study is enjoying a painting from Alex Katz’s 'Black Hat' series. Katz is known for his images that are typically flat in color and form and for his depictions of daily life and leisure.
I like the differences and similarities between Katz's sitter and my own. The figure by Katz is shielded by a black hat and sunglasses. Mine doesn't wear anything like that, but she isn't revealing herself either. I like this layer of detachment together with the depiction of daily life and leisure.
