Girl With Ribbon by Roy Lichtenstein is of one of Pop Art's most inconic images. In 1961, art dealer Leo Castelli started displaying Lichtenstein's work at his gallery in New York. Lichtenstein had his first one-man show at the Castelli gallery in 1962; the entire collection was bought by influential collectors before the show even opened. I sure hope the woman on my painting isn't thinking about what painting's worth, but enjoys it for what it is.

Few Pop images are more widely recognized than Indiana's Love. Originally designed as a Christmas card commissioned by The Museum of Modern Art in 1965, Love has appeared in prints, paintings, sculptures, banners, rings, tapestries, and stamps.

Full of erotic, religious, autobiographical, and political underpinning, Love is both accessible and complex in meaning. It was co-opted as an emblem of 1960s idealism. Perhaps that's what my figure is thinking about on this painting.

A Bigger Splash is a large pop art painting by British artist David Hockney. It depicts a swimming pool beside a modern house in California, disturbed by a large splash of water created by an unseen figure who has apparently just jumped in from a diving board. The violent explosion of water caused by diver doesn't disturb the woman on my small study, she remains calm like the rest of Hockney's picture.

self portrait in front of painting Not To Be Reproduced (La Reproduction Interdite) by Rene Magritte

G. Boersma
acrylic on masonite
8" x 8" or 20 x 20 cm
2017

SOLD

On this painting you see me enjoying an Not To Be Reproduced (La Reproduction Interdite) by Rene Magritte.

The original work by Magritte depicts a man standing in front of a mirror, but whereas the book on the mantelpiece is reflected correctly, the man's reflection also shows him from behind.

However, in my version I take the place of the man seen from behind in the mirror adding new meaning to this piece. This painting is a study for a yet to be painted larger work.

The Scream- Painting Of Woman Enjoying Painting By Edvard Munch

The Scream
painting of a woman enjoying painting The Scream by Edvard Munch

G. Boersma
acrylic on masonite
71" x 47 1/4" or 180 x 120 cm
2017

'I was walking along the road with two friends – the sun was setting – suddenly the sky turned blood red – I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence – there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city – my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety – and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature.'

That's what Edvard Munch wrote about his painting The Scream in his diary. This painting has always been a personal favorite and thought it would be perfect for my third giant scale painting. Hope you enjoy it!

A woman is about to walk into a dark building. To me this symbolizes the fact that the future might look dark, but you have to show courage and walk through that door anyhow. Do not let your fears hold you back.

One night I was watching the 8 o'clock news with Noraly Beijer on Dutch television and wondered what I was actually watching. I decided to take a picture of my television screen to freeze time and use it as a starting point for a painting. As it turned out what I was watching was a candy colored environment with a tank in it.
