The women on my painting are enjoying themselves in a hotel lobby in Las Vegas. As a painter I'm interested in small moments like this. To me it says a lot about todays society, about the way we see ourselves, the way we interact and also how we are influenced by all sorts of technologies, in this case the slot machines with its bright neon lights.

All the best, Gerard Boersma

The woman on my painting is enjoying a portrait of Elizabeth Taylor by Andy Warhol. This portrait reflects the artist’s fascination with female celebrity. He first painted her portrait in 1963 when she was at the height of her career. Yet she was also severely ill with pneumonia. In this portrait Warhol used a publicity photograph for Taylor’s film ‘Butterfly 8’ as the basis for the screenprint. It is typical of his 1960s Pop style with vibrant, flat blocks of color.

The Village- Painting Of Man Enjoying Painting By Marc Chagall

The Village
painting of a man enjoying painting by Marc Chagall

8" x 8" or 20 x 20 cm

SOLD

On the painting we see my figure enjoying a painting by Marc Chagall. Painted the year after Chagall came to Paris in 1910, 'I and the Village' is influenced by memories of the artist's place of birth and his relationship to it.

In the village, peasants and animals lived side by side, in a mutual dependence here signified by the line from peasant to cow, connecting their eyes. I and the Village is nostalgic and magical, a rural fairy tale: objects jumble together, scale shifts abruptly, and a woman and two houses, at the painting's top, stand upside-down. This daringly whimsical style were at the time considered groundbreaking and very enjoyable up to this day.

The woman on my painting is enjoying a painting by street artist Banksy. This iconic stencil illustration continues to stand out among all of the Bristol artist's work. The subject, who appears to be involved in a riot, wears a handkerchief and backwards cap and is depicted armed with a bouquet of flowers instead of a Molotov cocktail.

The woman on my painting is enjoying Le Rêve (French, 'The Dream') by Pablo Picasso. Picasso then 50 years old, portrayed his 22-year-old mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter. It is said to have been painted in one afternoon, on 24 January 1932. It belongs to Picasso's period of distorted depictions, with its oversimplified outlines and contrasted colors resembling early Fauvism.

3 Women- Two Women In Museum With Painting Nana By Manet

The two women on my painting are sitting on a bench in a museum. In the background we see a glimpse of Edouard Manet's painting Nana.

This painting shows a young and beautiful woman who stands before a mirror with two extinguished candles, her face turned to the spectator. Her dress is incomplete; she wears a white chemise, blue corset, silk stockings and high-heeled footwear.

Both the title and the numerous details suggest that the picture represents a high class prostitute and her client. 'Nana' was a popular assumed name for female prostitutes during the second half of the 19th century, but I'm not sure my figures are aware of that.

The woman on my painting is enjoying a self portrait from 1966 by Andy Warhol. In the latter part of his career, Warhol focused more and more on portraiture. He created portraits of people he admired: Michael Jackson, Grace Jones, Muhammed Ali as well as wealthy socialites he met on the New York social circuit.

By the mid-1960s, Warhol had amassed a huge public following. Engaging in the painting of self-portraits only further cultivated his fame. In time, Warhol’s self-portraits became as famous as the iconic portraits of Marilyn Monroe or Elizabeth Taylor. The artist had himself become a celebrity.

The woman on my painting is looking at a portrait of Jackie Kennedy by Andy Warhol. In the weeks that followed the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963, Warhol began to collect pictures of the widowed First Lady that flooded the popular press.

He had silkscreens made of his various Jackie images and began to print them on small canvases with blue- and gold-colored grounds. The close-cropped images here reproduces a moment shortly before any shots were fired and soon after.

Few Pop images are more widely recognized than Indiana's LOVE. Originally designed as a Christmas card commissioned by The Museum of Modern Art in 1965, LOVE has appeared in prints, paintings, sculptures, banners, rings, tapestries, and stamps.

Full of erotic, religious, autobiographical, and political underpinning, LOVE is both accessible and complex in meaning. It was co-opted as an emblem of 1960s idealism. Perhaps that's what my figure is thinking about on this painting.
