Tomatoes 2 - Still Life Painting Of Red Tomatoes

Tomatoes 2

G. Boersma
acrylics on masonite
6" x 6" or 15 x 15 cm
2010
SOLD

Another still life of tomatoes, I simple couldn't resist the red color! I ate the tomatoes afterwards by the way, no need to waste such tasteful food, is there?

Besides eating tomotoes I got interviewed today by Mirjam van Houten for De Moanne. This Frisian cultural magazine will publish an article in their may issue about artists and entrepreneurship. The article sounds very promising as it gives an in dept view by different artists on this topic. Of course I let you know when the magazine hits the newstands in may. I would like to thank Mirjam for the pleasant interview and I'm looking forward reading the article in due time!

Something different than my recent still life painting today. Todays painting is the larger sized version of my daily painting I did a while ago of an auction at Sotheby's. The painting on the right is by Cezanne. I especially like the coloring and atmosphere, it looks just very classy to me.

Tomatoes- Still Life Realism Painting Of 3 Tomatoes

Tomatoes

G. Boersma
acrylics on masonite
6" x 6" or 15 x 15 cm
2010
SOLD

After fininshing yesterdays Paprika I really got in the mood to paint some more food. I always liked the red of tomatoes and thought that just might be a good subject for todays painting.

Painting food is relatively new to me, but painting on such a small scale and still receive such high realism, really makes me wonder why I don't do it more often. It's so much fun to do! I'm pretty quick too, I painted todays tomatoes within one hour, believe it or not!

Paprika- Still Life Realism Painting Of Paprika Bell

Paprika

Well, after finishing the potatoes, which was so much fun to do, I thought I should try my hand at some other food as well. You know, just to find out if I liked that as well.

I wanted to paint something with a complete different texture, but it had to have some color in it. That's how I ended up painting todays paprika. As it turned out I really liked painting the paprika as well and you just might expect some other paintings with fruits or vegetables.

Not that long ago I first painted a still life with potatoes. I had so much fun painting those little rascals that I felt I wasn't finished with them yet. I love their gold color and dirty texture, it's so much fun to paint!

The painting shows a still life of one of my Winsor & Newton Galeria acrylic paint tubes. After all the auction and museum painting I felt like makig a still life again. The painting shows a merchandise mug of Homer Simpson from the animated television show The Simpsons. I'm a huge fan of the series, I even wrote my art history thesis about it and thought it would be fun to paint Homer in a realistic setting.

Other Direction- Painting Art Within Art Edward Hopper Kunsthal Rotterdam

Other Direction
SOLD

G. Boersma
acrylics on masonite
6" x 6" or 15 x 15 cm
2010

As I said yesterday I was glad to visit the show Modern Life with works by Edward Hopper and his peers. Hopper has always been a great influence to me as a painter and it's always a pleasure to see his works in real life.

On todays work you see a man looking or rather looking away from Hoppers South Carolina Morning. As Hopper figures usually lacked any communication I thought it would be great to do the same with my figure. He's looking in another direction as well. Hopper influenced me greatly, but on a whole other level the title Other Direction also stands for me choosing my own path.

Sunset - Man Looking At Railroad Sunset By Edward Hopper In Kunsthal Rotterdam

Sunset
SOLD

G. Boersma
acrylics on masonite
6.7" x 6" or 17 x 15 cm
2010

At the latest moment possible I heard the Kunsthal in Rotterdam showed for the very first time ever works by Edward Hopper within the context of their time. Eight top pieces by Hopper from the collection of Whitney Museum of Modern Art were shown together with works by famous artists like Georgia O'Keeffe, Ralph Soyer, Reginald Marsh, Charles Sheeler amongst others.

I visited the show on its closing day and I'm glad I did so. Hopper has always been one of my alltime favourite artists and I'm just happy his Railroad Station is now part of my ongoing series of works about people looking at art in museums.
