Sotheby's Two
Please email me for price and purchase information

G. Boersma
acrylics on masonite
6" x 6" or 15 x 15 cm
2010
SOLD

Another take on yesterdays painting of an auction taking place at Sotheby's. This time I focused more on the assistant and the Cezanne painting next to him. I really love the colors in this one, the greenish blues and all the different tones of red and browns just make this painting look so classy to me. Of course the art, suit and gloves add to this as well.

Sotheby's

You know how it is when you find a brand new subject to paint? Everything is still open and possibilities just seem endless. I feel that way about my new auction series, there still is a lot of ground to break and to me that's very exciting as a painter. On todays painting you see auctioner Tobias Meyer taking bids at an auction at Sotheby's. An assistant is standing next to the auctioned painting by Cezanne.

In Amsterdam I saw this woman waiting for her tram to show up at the Leidseplein. I love the graphic design on the background, it almost feels like an illustration, but it's realism alright.

Global FInancial Crisis - Painting Of Stockbroker Looking At Index Screen

Global Financial Crisis

G. Boersma
acrylics on masonite
6.7" x 6" or 17 x 15 cm
2010
SOLD

People around me are still talking about the global financial crisis. Some say things are getting back to normal, others think we haven't hit rock bottom yet. However, I thought it would be a great subject matter for todays painting.

On my painting you see a stockbroker staring at an index screen with all the shares turned red. I like to think that the green ones aren't the last ones which haven't turned red yet, but the first ones to turn green again. To me this symbolizes that no matter how tough times may be, there's always someway out.

If you're interested in purchasing this painting please email me for purchase information and price.

Another take on the telephone bids theme at auctionhouse Christie's. I love the simple setting and the dramatic lighting. One of these days I'll make a larger sized version of this theme, not sure yet about the composition, it still needs some work, but I will get there.

Todays paintings shows a couple of workers at auctionhouse Christie's taking bids by phone during a frantic auction.

I've been concentrating on smaller sized paintings again recently and I must say I'm really having fun with it. So much that I'm picking up my dailies for the time being. I have been going back and forth about returning to ebay and finally decide to do so. I couldn't come up with a more suitable painting than todays.

Artbook about me and my art published by d'Jonge Hond

I've got some really good news! Publisher d'Jonge Hond is about to publish a series of books about a select few contemporary artists later this year and I'm one of the artists! D'Jonge Hond is well known in the Netherlands for their books on art and graphic design.

It will be the first time a book solely dedicated to me and my paintings will hit the stores. It's still a bit foggy to me how and when it will see the day of light or what the book eventually will look like, all I know for now that its going to have a hard cover, background texts and of course loads of images.

Right now I'm in the middle of selecting paintings for the book. I knew I painted a lot, but boy I'm having a hard time picking my best works. I sure could use a hand in this. If you have any favourite paintings which you defenitely would like to see included in the book let me know!

Reproduction - Painting Of Mona Lisa Rolling Of Printing Press

A picture can say a thousand words, but a thousand pictures just might say nothing at all. On todays painting you see a reproduction of Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa rolling of a printing press. Needless to say Mona Lisa is one of worlds most famous paintings and a real icon in its own right.

Few other works of art have been subject to as much scrutiny and parody as Mona Lisa. I feel this deprived the painting much of its meaning. It has been used over and over again. By showing a reproduction of the Mona Lisa on a printing press I stress this point, but I'm guilty of the doing the same thing of course.

The painting raises questions about authencity as well. In a way it's a bit like Richard Prince's series of works for which he re-photographed old Marlboro advertisements and claimed them to be his own, but my painting might take things even a little further.

You see, first of all the painting on my painting is a reproduction, somebody already copied it before I did. But it doesn't stop there, to make things more confusing the image is a filmstill from Robert Hughes' documentary Mona Lisa Curse. I used that as reference for my own work. So you could say it's a copy of a copy of a copy if I'm not mistaken. I wasn't lying when I said the Mona Lisa has been used over and over again. Anyway in the end, much like Richard Prince claimed, it's of course my painting, every stroke I paintstakingly did myself and nobody else.

I think I need a lighter subject to paint now, maybe some potatoes or something.

kind regards, Gerard

Amero - Painting Of Auctionhouse Christie's

Todays painting is situated at auctionhouse Christie's. Usually the room is jampacked with people, but now there's not a soul in sight. The auctioneer isn't there and the seats are empty. All you see is the desk of the auctioneer and a partial view of the screen with currency conversions.

If you take a closer look at this screen you might notice a very strange currency called Amero. For a while now I hear all these wild rumours going around about the Amero being the replacement currency of the dollar, valid in Canada, US and Mexico only.

Not sure if there's any truth in these rumours, but I thought it would be a cool thing to make a painting with the Amero in it. If the Amero ever sees the light of day people might wonder how on earth I knew about it in 2010.

kind regards, Gerard
