In addition to the Art Bubble which is situated at Sotheby's I now painted The Auction at the other great auctionhouse Christie's.
Instead of showing the actual painting being auctioned you now see the lot number with conversions to other valuta in the background. Painting all those letters and numbers was quite hard to do I might add, it made me dizzy from time to time! The image shows them a little bit crooked, I haven't got a clue why, but believe me they're straighter than 6'o clock.
I like that the action takes place outside the painting, we cannot see who's actually bidding, we only see the auctioneer and some audience members looking at something outside the painting. The dramatic lighting really adds to this mystery.
If you take a closer look though, you'll probably notice that something is off. I'm going to be a tease right now not telling you what it is! But, if you're the first who guesses it right, I'll give you a free signed postcard with a painting of mine on it. Feel free to post your guesses in the comments!
kind regards, Gerard

The Art Bubble - Painting Of Art Auction Sotheby's
These last couple of weeks I've been hard at work painting my largest painting since a long time entitled The Art Bubble. On the painting you see a contemporary art auction at the famous auctionhouse Sotheby's in New York.
Record prices are being paid for contemporary art everywhere and some people say this is a bubble about to burst if it hasn't already. On my painting you see this bubble quite literally, the auctioned painting is one of a young girl blowing bubbles. Then again, the painting is well executed, so why shouldn't it fetch a high price?

Cartman - painting of glass
Last year I painted a still life of a glass showing Kenny of Southpark and now I felt like making one with Cartman. His catchfrase 'I'm not fat, I'm big boned' is right beneath his feet. The funny thing about painting cartoons this way is that all of a sudden they become realistic, I kind of like this strange contrast.
The Leeuwarder Courant recently published a review of my solo-show at Artemisia, it's in Dutch only and you can read it here
