Three Cabs -Yellow Cabs In Streets NYC

I had so much fun painting the yellow cabs yesterday that I wanted to try my hand on another painting with the same subject. This time focussing more on the back of the cars and reflections on the ground.

kind regards, Gerard Boersma

Roxy - Yellow Cabs On Times Square

I'm really getting back into my daily painting routine, I love it. Today I got another great scene from New York for you, Times Square to be exact. The cabs are great to paint, the colors are vibrant and it stands out against almost every background. Here the background is Roxy, a restaurant on Times Square.

Crossing - woman crossing a street at night in New York

After concentrating on medium and larger sized work for a while I started to miss my little daily paintings. I now return to my 'dailies', which means more frequent updates. Crossing is the first one. On the painting you see a woman crossing a street in New York. She's the only one who wants to go to the other side of the street, a rare thing in New York I guess. To me it's also symbolic for choosing your own path. The woman doesn't walk on the far end of the crossing by accident, she has chosen it.

In other news, tomorrow about ten of my paintings will go to Groningen for a groupshow in Der Aa Kerk. This former church is located in downtown Groningen and is now used for all kinds of social and cultural activities. In association with SBK Amsterdam and CBK Groningen my paintings will be shown there from aug 14 untill aug 27. The official opening will take place on aug 15 at 16.00 hours. I would be honoured if you could join the festivities!

23rd Street - people waiting on subway new york

In every subway station in New York you always have this great view of the platform across. Of course you don't get a clear view, there are a lot of beams in the way. On my painting 23rd Street you see such a scene.

Break - man looking at Millet

Today I finished the larger sized version of Break. On the painting you see a man looking at Man with a hoe by Millet. The man on Millets' painting is taking a rest of his hard labour on the land. Obviously my figure didn't have to work that hard today, he's enjoying a visit to the Getty Center, but still he's taking a rest as well.

Subway Seats

I've been painting a lot of larger scaled paintings these last couple of weeks and I felt like doing a smaller one for change. The painting shows one of my favourite subjects: the subway of New York. You see 2 seats of the car and through the open door you have a direct view of what's going on on the platform.

Head-Lights - painting of yellow cab New York

It's so hot in my studio! The paint is drying before I even can mix it properly. It's one of those days I wished I was a plein air painter. Ah well, I just keep going at it and besides I got a small break coming up this weekend starting tomorrow. In any case I finally made the larger sized version of Head-Lights. It seems I'm heavy on the cabs these days!
