Lunch and Happy New Year!

Well here it is, the last painting of 2008! On the painting you see two women having lunch but not with eachother at a restaurant on the Spui in Amsterdam.

As you probably noticed already I take things slow these last days of 2008. I started painting on a large version of Dirk, which is really going well. Just three days of work and already certain parts are finished. I hope I can keep it up. I will be returning to my dailies next week. Happy New Year and I see you on monday!

kind regards, Gerard Boersma

Botticelli - Still life of bookshelf

A lot of people ask me what kind of art i like. Well there's a lot, but on todays painting you see a portion of one of my all time favourites. The painting on the book is by Sandro Botticelli entitled The Birth of Venus. I saw this painting together with his other masterwork Primavera for the first time at the Uffizi in Florence and was completely blown away by it. I thought it was a good idea to pay hommage to such an great artist as a still life painting.

This is the last still life for now, I will be returning to my usual urban scenes of people. Due to the hollidays I'm not sure how often I will post this and next week. We'll see how that goes. In any case, happy hollidays and best wishes for 2009!

kind regards, Gerard Boersma

Spa & Fruit - Still life painting bottle of Spa

I had a hectic day yesterday, but everything turned out just great! I had to pick up a couple of paintings at Warnars & Warnars and then bring them and other paintings to the frameshop in Amsterdam. From there they will be framed and shipped to LA for the LA Art Show in january. Not exactly knowing where to go me and a friend took a wrong turn somewhere, but we managed to get there with less than a quarter to spare before the shop closed. I'm glad everything turned out just fine, but decided to take it slow today. I hope you enjoy todays painting of a bottle of Spa & Fruit and I wish you a happy weekend!

Lays

As I mentioned yesterday I saw some other great motifs for still life paintings in the supermarket. Todays painting Lays is one of them. This time I showed a little bit more of the surroundings as the pricetag above left.

Coca Cola Bottles - Still life of 2 bottles of coke

I've painted the glasses and bottles of Coke a couple of times now and I cannot seem to get enough of it. The shape of the bottle and the colours of the label are great fun to paint. Of course the reflections attract me too. The scene is actually taken from a visit to the supermarket. I also noticed some other great still lifes there so you can probably expect some more this week.

Lidl - Still Life of bag with groceries

A popular supermarket in the Netherlands is the German discounter Lidl.  Anyway, besides carrying them I thought they would make a great still life. And they do.

Star - Painting of sidesteps large city 6

A bit later than usual, I experienced some major internet problems. Luckily everything is alright now. Just because the hollidays are nearing I thought we get into the spirit with todays painting. You see a crowd walking on the sidesteps with stores lighting up the scene. Of course the best light comes from the star left!

On ebay several auctions are going on, make sure you don't miss it by clicking here.

Todays painting is situated at the Royal Museum of Art in Brussels, Belgium. I love the simple design of the painting and sure hope you do too.

I completely forgot to put up the link yesterday about the item of me on Omrop Fryslan television. The main language spoken is Frisian, so i sure hope you can make something out of it. Anyway, you can see it on youtube by clicking here. Enjoy!

Hot Dog - Commissioned Painting 6 x 6.7"

Today I wanted to show you a commisioned painting of a hot dog I've done recently. Initially the hot dog was just a classic sandwich with mustard ketchup and of course the sausage. I'm glad we changed it into this hot dog, way more tasteful and above all more colourful.

I also started to work on a larger still life today after much hesitation. I hesitated because I wasn't sure if it would fit with my other paintings, but then decided to give it try anyhow. It will take some time to complete, but it won't interfere with my daily paintings.

Back to Work

On todays painting you see a woman going back to work after her lunch break was over. She did some serious shopping while on her break. The scene is situated in front of the Achmeabuilding in my hometown Leeuwarden.

Yesterday the item on Omrop Fryslan television aired. I always find it quite odd to see myself in 3d, but I'm very pleased with the item. In case you missed it and want to see it, as soon as I got a link I'm posting it here!

Sweeper- Man cleaning in front of restaurant 6 x 6"

Yesterday Omrop Fryslan dropped by to film and interview me about the LA Art Show. The item airs this sunday at 17.30h and is repeated every hour all sunday evening. The item shows new footage combined with old footage from the New York-documentary. I cannot wait to see it! After the filming I had to bring my paintings to Joure where I show my work at the Gemeentehuis Skasterlan from dec 6 - feb 1.

So I had a busy day yesterday and it felt really good to back in my studio again for some painting. Although it only has been a couple of days I felt it was long overdue. On todays painting you see a nice old fellow sweeping the tiles in front of his restaurant. I just love the lighting, it makes lovely deep shadows, I'm especially fond of the red on the left. I believe the restaurant is ltalian. In any case it's located at the Utrechtsestraat in Amsterdam, very near Gallery Rudolfv where I showed my last month.

Brand new website and special offer

If you have been wondering why I'm not posting daily, well I have been hard at work building a brand new homepage. I felt I could use a new look for a while now and finally did so with the help of my friend and fellow artist Alexander Russchen of Art-Oddities.com. I designed the lay-out and he helped me a lot with the technical side. Thank you Alexander!

The content on www.gerardboersma.nl is about the same, but the paintings are way larger than before. A lot of people complained about the small thumbnails and you were all right. The larger images do my art justice. Feel free to share your comments or suggestions. I'm looking forward hearing from you.

Just to celebrate I got a special offer today for my painting Savoy. For just 100,- euro you can be the proud new owner! All you got to do is email me if you're interested. The painting goes to the first emailer, hopefully it's you!

In other news, tomorrow broadcaster Omrop Fryslan will interview me about the LA Art Show. An item on television will follow soon. Tomorrow I also got to bring my paintings to Joure for my solo-show in the Gemeentehuis. I'll be back this thursday with a brand new painting!
