29.8.08Attention
I really have a lot of inspiration in making these paintings of people looking at art lately. On my painting you see a lady looking the other way while it looks like the young girl on the painting is trying to grab her attention. I thought it was a great motif for todays painting.

28.8.08Febo
In the Netherlands you can get your fastfood out of a wall. The vending machine is build into a wall and after putting your coin in you can open a lock of your choice and get your steaming hot food right away. On the painting you see two of those locks with hamburgers inside. The title refers to the company Febo who operates the vending machines. They're quite popular over here and make a lovely still-life.

27.8.08Landscape
The paintings I love best by Vincent van Gogh are his landscapes. Those are usually very colourful, bright and just plain beautiful. The man on my painting is looking at one of them and it sure was great fun to paint! If you would like to have this blogpainting just click on the link beneath the painting to place your bid. You'll receive the painting safely packaged after a week up to days after the auction ends.
In other news I'm busy framing my paintings for my upcoming one man show at Galerie Van den Berg in my hometown Leeuwarden. It's going to be a good one, I can tell you. There's still time left to enter my special birthday action. Next week the winners will be announced! kind regards, Gerard Boersma
26.8.08The Textmessage
No new painting today, I've been working very hard on a commisioned portrait. It's going really well, but unfortunately I cannot tell you who commisioned it, it will spoill the surprise when the portraited person receives the painting. Of course I will post it as soon as I can, probably by the end of september. So no new painting, but I do got this lovely larger sized painting for you today.

Today painting is slightly reminiscent of a painting called The Bus I did earlier this year. That painting showed the front of the bus, I now concentrated on the back of it with two men waiting for their bus to show up. I can tell you it was quite difficult to get all the reflections in the window just right, but I think I managed it quite well.
There's still some time left to send in your motiviations for my special birthday action where you can win my painting Holy Water or The Bull, please click here for more information: special birthday action Last but not least, I've got a one man show coming up real soon at Galerie Van Den Berg in my hometown Leeuwarden. 23.8.08Youth
With the heavy subject matter of yesterdays painting, I felt like doing a lighter one for todays. On the painting you see an older woman looking at a painting by impressionist Corinth in the Kunsthalle in Hamburg. On Corinths painting you see a young woman brushing her hair, while a man is standing behind her watching. The young woman on the painting will stay like this forever, while the woman looking at her is getting older by the minute with all the difficulties that come with age, as the cain clearly shows. Still she's enjoying herself and simple has a good time!
If you would like to have this blog painting just click on the link beneath the painting to place your bid. The auction only lasts for 10 days and you can expect the painting within a week to 10 days after the auction ends. kind regards, Gerard Boersma
22.8.08Peace Mission
Todays painting isn't a happy one, but I just had to paint it. As you might have heard on the news Dutch troops are in Afghanistan. I don't know how they call it in other countries, but here they don't call it going to war, they call it a peace mission. I believe this is one of the largest marketing schemes I have ever seen, turning a war into something positive. I decided to paint a couple of soldiers carrying one of their fallen mates in his coffin. I want to point out that even though they call it a peace mission, it actually is a war and you can die in it.

20.8.08Expressionism
This may come as a surprise to you, but even though I'm a realist I'm still a huge fan of expressionism. I love the loose brushstrokes, the intense colours and well, just the way those artist express themselves. I could never paint like that, it just doesn't feel right to do myself. Anyway, the woman on my painting is looking at a painting by Kirchner in the Kunsthalle in Hamburg.

Boersma SOLD If you have followed my blog for some time you probably know that I'm a big fan of reading. I just recently got a copy of the classic Photorealism book by Meisel which I'm enjoying tremendously. The woman on my painting isn't reading, but she is sitting in the public library of my hometown. She's hard at work, studying and taking notes! kind regards, Gerard

18.8.08Pizza
I wanted to publish this painting last friday, but I wasn't satisfied with it yet. I continued to work on it and now I feel it's finished. On the painting you see a couple of people waiting in line for a slice of pizza at one of those stands at the trainstation in Amsterdam. The painting looks a bit like my painting The Counter I did earlier this year. The lighting is about the same and I just love it. I'm looking forward finding places with similar lighting.

Not only has the Kunsthalle in Hamburg an impressive selection of modern art, they also have a lot of art from the middle ages. Usually I'm not really attracted to those type of paintings, but the panels on my painting caught my attention. The large panels were standing on bars and you can actually walk around them. At first I thought they were painted on both sides, but that wasn't the case. I found it kind of interesting to see the back of the panels, but front wasn't bad to look at either, haha. Anyway, I sure hope you enjoy this little gem!

13.8.08Booksale
In a local bookstore I saw this elderly couple flipping through the books for sale. I don't know if they found any, but I know I did, although I cannot recall which one. It was quite a challenge to paint all those books, but it was great fun.

12.8.08The Storm
While painting todays painting I thought the horses could storm at me any minute from now, that's why I entitled this piece The Storm. If those horses were real I sure wouldn't want to stand where this lovely lady on my painting stands. The painting she's looking at is by Renoir and is called 'A Morning Ride in the Bois de Boulogne'. You can see it in the Kunsthalle in Hamburg.

11.8.08Wheelchair
I slowly start to pick up my daily paintings again. You can expect a painting each working day this week. First up this week is Wheelchair, quite different than my still-life painting of friday, but a bit similar to the painting I did for the Leeuwarder Courant. On the painting you see an old lady waiting in line for an ATM machine. She looks a bit helpless, but rest assured she can handle herself quite well.

8.8.08Coca Cola
I had so much fun painting those glasses of Coca Cola and Pepsi recently that I couldn't resist painting another one. Todays painting has a Coca Cola glass on it as well, but it is a different glass. I also made the background a little bit more green, the contrast with the reds of the glass just works very well I think. Have a great weekend and I'm looking forward receiving your motivations for my special birthday action.

Last week my relatives Gerrit Wijngaarden en Grietje Huisman paid me a visit. Both are excellent painters themselves and we always wind up talking about our paintings, something I love to do. While looking at my painting The Elevator (2005) Grietje mentioned the painting could be better if I let out most of the details on the right. I was curious how that would look and I immediately started working on a second version of the painting. Well, todays painting is the result of my efforts and I must say I like it very much!
