Special Birthday Action!

Tomorrow I will celebrate my 32th birthday and like last year I decided to do something special!

Last year you could be the proud owner of my painting 'The Shell', but this year is going to be a little bit different. I'm not giving away one painting but two! You can be the proud owner of my painting 'The Bull' or 'Holy Water' for a price you yourself come up with. All you got to do is tell my why one of these paintings or both should be hanging on your wall.

The Bull goes for 212,- euro (± $ 335,-) on my site and 'Holy Water' for 129,- euro (± $ 204,-), but it doesn't matter how high, low or crazy your bid is. Anything goes! Whether you want the painting for 6,56 or both for 1787,- euro, dollars or yen doesn't matter, the painting can be yours for either amount!

All you have to do is tell me why 'The Bull' or 'Holy Water' should hang on your wall. Our expert jury, existing of me, myself and I, will give the painting to the entry with the most creative, original or personal motivation.

For writing your motivation you can use as many words as you need to. You can write a motivation for 'The Bull', 'Holy Water' or for both paintings. Send your motivation and your price mentioning 'The Bull' or 'Holy Water' before september 1, 2008 to:

Gerard Boersma
Wissesdwinger 1, studio no. 15

or email it to:
info@gerardboersma.nl

You can send as many motivations as you like and of course you can tell your friends and family about it too. The results will be announced on september 2 on www.gerardboersma.blogspot.com

I'm looking forward receiving your motivations!

While painting the Coca Cola glass a few days ago I couldn't resist the temptation of painting a glass by their largest rival as well. So here it is, Pepsi!

The Circle

I've been busy painting still lifes these last few days, but as I said I didn't give up painting humans at all as todays painting clealry demonstrates. I love how the figures are sitting/ standing in a circle. They connected to each other, but are still enjoying art in their own way. The lovely painting on the back is by Felix Vallotton as seen in the Hamburger Kunsthalle.

In other news my birthday is coming up this friday and I got a special action in the decks! More details will follow this week, so hold tight!

Sneaker

While flipping through a book about my relative Jopie Huisman I saw his paintings of shoes once again and thought it would be a great idea to paint a shoe myself. Although the paintings by Jopie don't have any people in it, they still tell the story of their owners. Of course my shoe is brand new, as a matter of fact it's still is waiting for a owner. So while Jopie's paintings are about the past, mine is about the future. And it looks crispy clear!

Travel Guides

For those who aren't going away on vacation, I give you todays painting. On the bookshelf you see all these different types of travel guides. Some of them you can read and some have a unknown destiny. So if you aren't going anywhere this summer like me at least we can dream about some exotic place!

Holy Water

Yeah, finally a painting this week! It's vacation time again and I'm taking things real slow, but that will change soon enough. Todays painting is quite unusual for me, it's a still life. I haven't made many still lifes and I thought it would be fun to experiment a bit with that using modern objects as a subject. The Coca Cola bottles are up first!

The Counter

This is a piece I worked on for quite some time now. It wasn't an easy one to make I can tell you that much, but I finally finished it and I'm defenitely satisfied with the results. I just love how the lady in uniform behind the counter is bathing in light against the lady on the foreground who's completely in shadows. It gives the painting such a great atmosphere. I don't even want to explain the meaning behind the painting, just sit back and enjoy!

The Bull

While I visited the Kunsthalle in Hamburg a while ago there was some kind of art class going on. The woman on my painting participated in this class and is trying to copy a painting by Felix Vallotton.

This painting The Abduction of Europe has a mythological theme. The naked lady is Europe who's been seduced by Zeus transformed into a bull. As the story goes he dragged Europe into the sea and brought her to Crete where she became the first queen of that island. Ultimately the whole continent got named after her.

I don't know if the woman on my painting finished her version of the painting, but of course I did so. I love the blue and purple colours, it makes the painting by Vallotton really pop out.

The Chair

As you might know I recently had a show in Amsterdam. The day we were hanging all the art in place, I had some time left to hit town. I took a long walk and ended up in the newly build library of Amsterdam. A great spot even if you don't like to read at all. The designs are amazing and fully up to date. In a corner I spotted this man leaning back while he enjoyed a good book. I just had to paint that!

Up High

If you have been following my blog you might remember my painting called 'Nude'. On this piece a woman was looking at a painting by Felix Vallotton in the Kunsthalle in Hamburg. I promised you a little series about this relatively unknown painter and today I finally live up to that promise. The unusual panel size follows the unusual hanging of the painting, but it works quite well!

Wanderer for his Painting

Today an article about me appeared in Zakenspiegel, a prestigious magazine for business people in my region. Of course I'm very pleased with this as you can imagine! I haven't seen the article yet myself, but I heard it's spread over two pages, complete with pictures. Cannot wait to see it!

The article is written by Anne Feddema, a fellow artist from my hometown Leeuwarden whom I greatly respect. When Anne saw my blogpaintings of people in museums he immediately commisioned me to paint todays painting. This piece is one of my most surrealist works up to date. You see the wanderer from the painting by Casper David Friedrich looking at his own painting. I thought the effect of this is quite funny, I sure hope you agree!

The Dance

Todays painting is a larger sized version of my painting the Dance. This time I zoomed out more, showing the complete painting by Millais. If you look closely you can see people dancing on the painting the man is looking at. The scene takes place in Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
